She was born in Krakow's Kazimierz in 1872 in a family of merchant Herzel Rubinstein.
She didn't finish the medicine studies as the view of blood maked her sick.
Protective father wanted her to marry a two times older man, widower but rich.
Helena, at that time in love with a poor medicine student, decided to go away from home,
to her uncle Louis in Australia.
Her mother snipped into the travellers bag 12 jars with beauty cream - that became the real fortune.
After few months under the cruel sun of Australia her skin remained ebony white.
Local beauties also wanted to have her skin, kept asking about the secret, and finally were presented the mother's cream.Sooner after more and more cream jars are made in Krakow, then send to Australia, finally Helena got the recipe and started to make the cream in Melbourne.
The rest of the story everybody knows.
First Europe: Paris, London, then US: shops in San Francisco, New York, Phioladelphia.
After her death the brandmark became the part of L'Oreal Empire.
And everything started in a small place in Kraków - Kazimierz.
